SMHC receives $1,000 grant

For Immediate Release

“Seacoast Mental Health Center (SMHC) receives $1,000 grant from Rotary Club of Portsmouth”

Portsmouth, NH, May 2, 2012—Seacoast Mental Health Center recently received a $1,000 grant to support its Emergency Services (ES) program.

Providing emergency phone and face-to-face assessment and crisis intervention to people of all ages in active crisis situations, 24 hours/7 days a week, ES took 2,380 crisis calls and saw a total of 1,222 people in the past fiscal year.

According to SMHC Executive Director Jay Couture, the grant will subsidize emergency mental health services provided to underinsured and uninsured patients.

“Due to continued reductions to the state budget in recent years, ES is in dire need of additional funding,” said Couture. “ES serves not only residents, but anyone in our region experiencing a mental health crisis. This grant provides critical support in our effort to address the needs of this state-mandated, but currently unfunded, population.”

Founded in 1963, SMHC provides comprehensive psychiatry, counseling, case management and psychological services to residents in the eastern half of Rockingham County, New Hampshire.
